Rare Large Dropped Hunter 

This is a very, very rare knife. The 5-inch drop hunter. Loveless made less than five of these about 34 years ago or so. It has solder, stainless pins, and a guard. This was made before the Flux started to bleed out on the blade. Loveless started doing Dry Fit in about 1991.

So this knife predates that. You just don’t see this size drop, it is massive when put down by the regular 4-inch drop hunter. As you well know, Bob, for some reason, called it the 4-inch drop hunter, but they are always going to be about 3 3/4”. Same as the 5-inch drop hunter, the blade is just over 4 3/4 inch.  The handles have been made in the proper portions to match the blade length. With the handle coming in at 4 1/2”. This makes for a nice size knife, being over 9” overall.

The classic green micarta has the most beautiful feel and is well-formed to fit the hand. The knife would be perfect to engrave as it has stainless hardware. I would say there are easily more original NY Specials, 10 made, than 5-inch drop hunters. If you are trying to fill out your Loveless Hunter collection or want something that all the other dealers worldwide don’t have, this is the knife. It has a mint blade, no rust, never sharpened, and an off-the-charts feel in the hand.

This knife is shop number #437 and comes with the original sheath. It has never been offered for sale before. Notice how wide the blade is—a massive 1 1/16” wide. The photos don’t do justice to the size of this knife.
